My lecture is about Muharram

Imam al-Husayn (a) was the third Imam of the Shi’a who was martyred in the Battle of Karbala after 10 years of Imamate.

He was the second son of Imam ‘Ali (a) and Lady Fatima (a), and the grandson of the Prophet (s).

At the time of his birth, the Prophet (s) foretold his martyrdom and chose al-Husayn as his name. The Prophet (s) introduced him and his brother, Imam al-Hasan (a), as the Masters of the Youth of Paradise. متن انگلیسی درباره محرم

Karbala is one of the pilgrimage cities in Iraq that is frequently visited by the Shi’a. It became such because of the martyrdom of Imam al-Husayn (a) and his faithful companions in this location in the year 61/680. In addition, this city also holds the mausoleums of Imam al-Husayn (a) and al-‘Abbas (a).

The events of the Day of Ashura are the events that happened for Imam al-Husayn (a) and his family, in the battle with the army of Yazid b. Mu’awiya led by Umar b. Sa’d on Muharram 10, 61/October 13, 680 in the land of Karbala which led to the martyrdom of Imam al-Husayn (a), his companions and his relatives. The rest of his caravan was also taken as captives.

The importance of this month for Shi’a is because the event of Ashura’ and the martyrdom of Imam al-Husayn (a) and his companions took place in this month.

Every year, Shi’a commemorates the martyrdom of their Imam in this month by holding mourning sessions.

Muharram al-haram” is the first month of Hijri calendar and one of the four Haram months in Islam and Pre-Islamic Arabian culture.متن انگلیسی درباره محرم

It is called “Muharram” (forbidden) because fighting is forbidden in this month.
